During the winter months, water intake becomes very important. Horses do not like to drink too cold or icy water. A stock tank with a heater is a life saver.

Horses need lots of water to digest hay and grain. Daily consumption can be 5 to 10 gallons of water or more. If you look at your horse’s water supply and you would not drink it, you can bet your horse is not going to drink it either. An electric-heated bucket, if hung safely, is great for both you and your horse (no busting ice out of buckets or hauling buckets back and forth from the house to thaw).

Another way to increase the amount of water a horse is drinking is to offer the MFA 5% Horse Mineral with SHIELD®. It can be offered free-choice. Your horses will intake as needed.
