Even when a language barrier exists, a shiny restored IH1066 will tear down any hesitation to communicate among farmers. The effect of this common ground was obvious when Boone County Missouri Farmer Marty Bowne discussed his farm and farming practices with his visitors from Brazil.
The farmers were all members of the 106-year-old farmer and food cooperative named Cotriba' of southern Brazil. While only two of the Portuguese-speaking travelers also spoke English fluently, everyone waited patiently for their turn with the cooperative employee who served as an interpreter.
What was of interest to our Brazilian friends? Old tractors, 12 foot Missouri corn field, and the specifics on just how Bowne has such clean and weed-free fields. Look for more in future issues of Today’s Farmer magazine.
